SIFNOS
HOTEL RECOMMENDATIONS
Accommodations should arranged directly with Sifnos-based Aegean Thesaurus Travel & Tourism.
They’re extremely reliable and can book anything from a cozy village
house, to a converted windmill, to beachfront hotels.
Visit them at http://www.travelling.gr/sifnos-aegean-thesaurus
for more information or contact them directly by email at thesaurus@travelling.gr
or by phone at 30 284 33151. They
have an office by Sifnos port (Kamares) and on the main village of Apollonia. We will be staying in the beach town in Platys Gialos
(also spelled as Platys Yialos). Platys
Gialos (“wide beach” in Greek) has been voted one of the most beautiful
beaches in Greece. It is 10km (7 miles) from Apollonia and 15 km (10
miles) from Kamares. There are
hourly buses.
We can recommend the following hotels at Platys Gialos:
It is also possible to find a simple room with private
bath to rent right on the beach in Platys Gialos. Prices ranges from $35-$50 per night and up.
But they’re can be difficult to reserve in advance.
You just need to go and look around.
Aegean Thesaurus Travel & Tourism may be able to help. There is also
Hotel Benakis and Hotel Philoxenia at Platys Gialos, but they are not directly
on the waterfront and can be noisy. HOTELS
OUTSIDE OF PLATYS GIALOS…
There are other places on the island.
Aegean Thesaurus can provide information about renting a traditional
village house even a converted windmill. It
can be very nice staying in a typical Greek village, especially if there are
more than 4 people, but you will need to drive.
Apollonia and Artemonis are the main towns.
Exampela and Kastro are beautiful villages, but a little more difficult
to access. Vathi is another very
beautiful beach town on the other end of the island.
There are no hotels, just small rooms to rent.
Vathi is also a bit more difficult to reach. We do not recommend staying in Faros or the port town of
Kamares, the beaches are not as nice. |
